About the salon
A quiet shop where your dog is the only dog.
2022
I worked at a high-volume grooming chain for nine years before I opened Bluegrass Pup Salon. The dogs were fine — but they were anxious, the techs were rushed, and the bills changed every visit. I knew I could do it differently.
So in 2022 I leased a small storefront on Romany Road, two blocks from the Beaumont neighborhood I grew up in. One groomer (me), one dog at a time, no cages, no hard deadlines. The room is quiet. There is classical music. Your dog gets the whole hour.
If you are bringing a senior, an anxious puppy, or a rescue who has had a rough time at other salons — this is the shop for you. Every visit gets a written report card so you know what I noticed.
From neighbors and their dogs
Why folks keep coming back.
-
“Sarah is the only groomer Maple has ever liked. She comes home calm, smells incredible, and the cut is exactly what we asked for. Every. Single. Time.”
-
“Our 14-year-old shih tzu had been kicked out of two other salons for being a "difficult senior." Sarah took her time, sent us photos halfway through, and Biscuit walked out wagging. Lifesaver.”
-
“I bring my standard poodle here for the breed cut and it comes out cleaner than the show ring. Worth every penny and then some.”
-
“Walked in on a Wednesday with two squirmy labs for nail trims. In and out in fifteen minutes, paws smooth, $36 flat. This place is a gift.”
-
“Our rescue had never been groomed before — Sarah went slow, did a half-groom the first time, and built him up to a full one over three visits. He now jumps out of the car when we pull up.”
-
“The written report card after every appointment is the detail I did not know I needed. I learned my old guy had a hot spot before it got bad.”

Common questions
What folks usually ask before the first visit.
How long does a full groom take?
About 90 minutes to two hours, start to finish. I only book one dog at a time, so your appointment is yours — no kennel waiting before or after.
Do you work with anxious or senior dogs?
Yes — that is most of who I see. I am Fear Free certified and my whole shop is set up for it: quiet music, no other dogs in the room, and we go at your pup's pace. If your dog has been "fired" by another salon, I would love to meet them.
What about puppies?
The Puppy First Visit is a 45-minute intro for pups under six months. Bath, nails, ears, lots of treats, no clippers — the goal is to make grooming feel safe so the next dozen visits are easy.
How early should I book?
I am one groomer. Most weeks I am booked out 2–3 weeks. For weekends, plan on 3–4. Walk-in nail trims on Wednesdays do not need an appointment.
What if my dog is matted?
I will be honest with you. I cannot brush out a heavily matted coat without hurting your dog — a shave-down is more humane. If that is the call, I will show you the mats first and we will decide together.
Do you require vaccines?
Yes — current rabies and bordetella, please. Email or text a copy from your vet before your first visit and we are good for the year.
What payment do you take?
Cards, cash, Apple Pay, Venmo, or Zelle. I send the invoice to your phone before you leave so there are no surprises.
Where do you serve?
Anyone in greater Lexington — Beaumont, Chevy Chase, Ashland Park, Hamburg, Tates Creek, Andover, downtown, and the suburbs out to Versailles and Nicholasville. The salon is on Romany Road; I do not do mobile.
